Meebo lets you sign in to all of the popular instant messengers that you use together. You can sign in to AIM, Google Talk, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, ICQ and Jabber from one place. And one top it’s all online, that is, you don’t need to download anything. You can now log on to instant messengers from anywhere via your browser.
Meebo has been around since a while now. When it started, people were using it on public computers where one didn’t have the rights or permission to install their instant messengers. But these days, Meebo has become quite popular and the site is being blocked in some places. Like when I was at RMIT University last year, the site was blocked. Now, don’t go thinking that there is something dark about the site, that’s why they blocked it. Not at all!!
The good thing though is that there are other similar sites like it now, and these are not too common and hence not blocked (yet!). I will make a few posts about the other similar services some other time (Subscribe to the feeds to stay updated!).
Another good use of this kind of service is when, for example, you have two different accounts for MSN Messenger and you want to log in both accounts at the same time. You probably know you can’t open two MSN Messenger windows at the same. So you can log in once in your own MSN Messenger and a second time through Meebo. Smart, isn’t it?
