I have always liked the idea of being able to send SMS from the web. Mainly because it’s free and save my credits on my mobile but also I can type with my keyboard, so it’s faster and my fingers love the smoothness of my keyboard :-P

There was a time when I used to always have my mobile in my hands and just sending SMS all day long, whether I was in class, on the roads, in front of the TV, in the bus, just about anywhere actually. I was addicted to text messaging. Hopefully, I didn’t need rehab to stop this sms addiction, all that was needed was to be a broke international student in Australia. The last thing I would wanna do with my money at that time was to recharge my mobile credits. It was then that I discovered text messaging via the Web

So anyways, cut the long story short, I have created a Squidoo lens dedicated to ways of sending free SMS from the web. I will try and continuously update it by pointing the short descriptions to the original blog post on FusionFoot.com. I still can’t believe I got the short name I wanted for this Squidoo lens. It’s a six-letter word, can you guest what it is? (You won’t find the word in a dictionary though)

It’s “websms”. Yes, it was still available on Squidoo, lucky me :-)  So the lens’ full URL is http://www.squidoo.com/websms

Here is a screenshot of the WebSMS Squidoo lens (which, I suppose, looks like any other lens out there):

P.S. I also came across an interesting feature with Squidoo. It’s probably a new feature since I didn’t see it before. I will talk about it soon, so stay tuned [that is, subscribe to the RSS feeds (if you haven’t done so yet!)]

Do you use both Facebook and Twitter to keep in touch with friends and family? Do you want your latest tweets to show up on your Facebook profile?

Then use the Twitter application available on Facebook. You can now extend the “What Are You Doing” concept of Twitter to post tweets directly from your Facebook profile. It might make your life easier if you are always hanging out on Facebook, or to keep you Facebook friends updated about what you are doing.

Here is how the application looks like in your profile:

Yep, that’s a tweet about the last post I made on this blog :)

Summize Homepage

Summize is a conversational search engine for Twitter. What it actually does is, it searches across Twitter conversions to match the word or phrase you are searching. The results are displayed in realtime and the latest tweets(or microblog posts!) are shown at the top.

An interesting thing(which you don’t get to see on conventional search engines) happens when you are searching for a word which is likely to occur in most sentences, such as “the”. When you click search the first time, you get a set of results with the latest tweets showing at top and immediately after that if you click search again, you get a complete new set of results. This goes to show at what speed people are active on Twitter :-P

Another useful trick you can use with this search engine for Twitter is to find who may be sharing your blog posts in their conversations. Now, you are probably aware that Twitter automatically shorten your URLs using TinyURL. But what you might not know is that TinyURL always provides the same shortened URL for a blog post. So, what you can do is, go to TinyURL and get the shorten URL of your blog post and use it with Summize to find all the tweets that contains this URL. Smart, eh?

Special thanks to Digital Inspiration for posting about this!

Send SMS Globally With Wadja

Social networks and Web 2.0 sites are popping up like mushrooms these days. People are beginning to feel dizzy when they hear about yet another social or friends network on the Internet. That’s a bit how I felt when my friend told me about this new social network, but when I heard the words “…send unlimited global sms to your friends…”, I was sold. I had to check it out!

Wadja Homepage

Wadja lets you use your mobile devices to socialise via emails, web messages and my favorite SMS… globally! It’s a one place for all communication. It is also a social network to make new friends and hangout with the old friends.

Like with most social networks, you can also add your existing friends from your emails accounts like Yahoo Mail, Hotmail and Gmail in just a few clicks.

The feature that I like the most is no doubt the Free Global SMS, you can send sms to any phone in the world at no cost. That’s not all, you can save a history of the sms messages in your Wadja account.

The website is constant adding new services and improvements. The newest feature update is the account privacy settings so you get to have total control of who views your profile and deny access to others.

What are the top annoyances on social networks according to you?

I have been blogging a lot about a few of the many social networks out there. I used to NOT be involved too much in social networks, the only profile I had and updated once a while was on Hi5. Then recently, I got into the “tweeting” or “twittering” mania, so much that now my blog posts are automatically twittered on my page.

Then I had my Facebook account, I had been resisting the temptation to open an account, but I couldn’t resist it anymore. So anyways, I came across this interesting list of annoyances of social networks which is worth a read.

“It’s great to keep in touch with your friends and colleagues, but does the price have to be spam, zombie bites, and friend invitations from people you’ve never heard of?”

Karate, Taekwondo Or Tricking

Some years ago, I used to practice karate and taekwondo. So, now even though I don’t practice them anymore and I have a tummy which seems to get fatter everyday, I still am deeply interested in martial arts. By that, I mean mostly in movies and competitions and no personal involvement ;)

I came across this two year old video, but a very cool one, showing some type of martial art. I wasn’t aware, but apparently it’s called tricking. I wonder if these tricks can actually help in fighting, but they sure please the eyes. For the people who are not feeling motivated to exercise harder, watch this.

Everybody should watch it anyway. What?? You don’t have a few minutes of your life to spare?? ;)

SocialSpark Homepage

The much awaited social network for advertisers and bloggers, SocialSpark is finally live(since some weeks already). I think it’s a great idea and at last bloggers and advertisers can create good relationships with each other, in a friendly social environment. This will certainly make it easier for advertisers looking to sponsor blog posts to find the right bloggers based on their interests, and also vice versa. Plus, you can create avatars too!!

I also created an account as a blogger with them today and submitted FusionFoot.com to get reviewed by one of their staff members before I can take full advantage of their services. They asked me so much detail about my blog, but I filled them patiently. It’s good to know that they are taking every bit of details into consideration.

Check out my SocialSpark profile, and if you want, you can join the community and connect with me.

The guys at SocialSpark also have their own Real Rank for ranking the blogs based on the number of unique visitors and page views, a bit like how Alexa ranks a site. The links will contain the “nofollow” attribute. So, that means the search engines (I mean Google) will be happy and the Google PR is not going to be manipulated. And now, advertisers can move away from looking for search engine benefits from sponsored posts and concentrate more on real traffic and conversion. Blog posts will also require a disclosure badge.

One of the other cool features of SocialSpark is the blog sponsorship, which basically, is an advertisement that pops up and minimizes to the bottom of the display. It’s definitely not one of those annoying popups. Recently, some of the bloggers had some complaints about the width of the advert when it minimizes to the bottom, so the guys at IZEA changed the with. They are actually looking for fruitful comments from their members to continuously improve their system.

Oh, by the way, IZEA is the parent company of PayPerPost and SocialSpark.

This post is sponsored by SocialSpark.

“Web 2.0 companies need to get a better understanding of the host entity that runs their business, the Internet. If not, they need to need to find someone that does, preferably someone they bring in at inception. Failing to do so will inevitably cost these companies users, performance and money.”

These days, everything around the corner is a Web 2.0 site. I personally see them just as better sites, better web design and better web development. So, what happened to Web 1.0?? These Web 2.0, mostly social networks, like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and SO many others are popping up everyday just like some years ago, during the dot COM boom, dot COM sites were popping up for every business…

You have a blog and a Twitter account, and you want to share your blog posts with your contacts and friends every time you publish an update on your blog. You can do it manually by going in your Twitter account and post a link to your blog post every time, or you can follow the instructions and tips below to get it automated.

I first opened my Twitter account because I wanted to share the stuffs which I blog about there. But, the problem was, most of the time after I completed a post and published it, I didn’t feel like going on Twitter immediately to post a link to the blog post. Then, later I would forget and this way I ended up not sharing most of the good stuffs.

So I did some research online and found out there is a really easy(and free) way to automate all this blog-post-sharing-on-twitter headache. TwitterFeed.com will get your RSS feeds twittering in no time.

Twitterfeed Homepage

You will also need an OpenID, which is used to provide a single sign in to many websites. With only one username, you can forget all your other passowords. You can your OpenID for free at MyViDoop.com.

MyViDoop Homepage

The interesting thing about MyViDoop is that your “password” is actually 3 categories that you will have to pick from a list of images and remember them for future use. Then, the next time, when you log in, you will have to select the categories you picked from other lists of images. I believe this is a great way of keeping access to your various accounts highly secure. All you have to remember is your 3 categories, the order in which they were selected is not important.

Once you get your OpenID, you can use it to login to TwitterFeed and submit your blog details and set an interval for checking your feeds. That’s it, you are all done. Now your blog will be checked every time after this interval and any new blog post you made will be shared on your Twitter account.

Long before there was Twitter, there was AOL

When Twitter suffered a brown-out last weekend, the “twitterati” had a collective conniption. I suppose the good news for co-founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone is that the bad news kicked up such a storm. Lots of people are so addicted to Twitter that the intermittent problems wreaked havoc with their daily routine.

Apparently, Twitter seems to be the next big thing after sliced bread just like Facebook, Xanga, MySpace and the likes. The Internet is just too dynamic for Twitter to stick around for long(at least from my point of view). It might last a few years but sooner or later there will be a new bigger thing again. That’s just the way the Internet is, it’s fast and dynamic.

Like years ago, I remember Angelfire and Geocities were a big hit, I had my first website on Geocities and now what? I’m not even sure if my first site is still online, I don’t even remember the URL and I don’t care. I created it, talked about it for a few days/weeks and I moved on.
