What are the top annoyances on social networks according to you?

I have been blogging a lot about a few of the many social networks out there. I used to NOT be involved too much in social networks, the only profile I had and updated once a while was on Hi5. Then recently, I got into the “tweeting” or “twittering” mania, so much that now my blog posts are automatically twittered on my page.

Then I had my Facebook account, I had been resisting the temptation to open an account, but I couldn’t resist it anymore. So anyways, I came across this interesting list of annoyances of social networks which is worth a read.

“It’s great to keep in touch with your friends and colleagues, but does the price have to be spam, zombie bites, and friend invitations from people you’ve never heard of?”

Save On International Calls

I can say, from experience, when I was in Australia international distance calls were costing me a lot at first. At that time, although I did know about calling cards, I didn’t use them, thinking I would be talking only a few minutes so it won’t make much difference. When I did used them, I realized I don’t have to talk to the other side of the world for minutes, but instead talk for hours and it wouldn’t cost me a fortune. Since then, for all international calls, I use calling cards or phone cards.

GetMeCallingCards Homepage

GetMeCallingCards.com is a leading international phone and calling cards online retailer, providing high quality service at low rates. At this time, their calling cards can be used from about 150 countries. Yes, you can use them to call the U.S. from overseas as well. Just check the country list you wish to call from for more details.

You can easily search from their wide range of calling cards from the homepage. There is a form where you can specify the country you are calling to and from and click search to see all the available cards. You get your PIN numbers immediately after checkout by email.

If you haven’t used or purchase calling cards before, the website has all all the instructions and guidelines to get you started in no time. So, start saving on your international calls from today!

I Witnessed A Road Accident Today

Yes, I witnessed a road accident today. It happened just when I was getting on a bus, I was about to get in when I heard a big BOOM. I looked quickly around me, to notice a car’s(a Honda I think) back completely smashed. For an instant, I thought that another car had hit it from behind.

It wasn’t any car, in fact, it was a motorcyclist. At that moment, I could see the motorcyclist with his helmet on his head sliding on the road on his arms. I can’t imagine how hard the impact must have been for a motorcycle to completely smash the back of a car. People started rushing to help and stop traffic. At the same time, the two passengers in the car got down and ran towards the man on the road.

I think what actually happened is that the car was changing lanes right in front of the bus and the motorcyclist who was coming at full speed didn’t see it and was not able to avoid it.

People in the bus got panicky. The good thing is that so many people won’t hesitate to jump out of the bus to help. They put the motorcyclist in an upright position, while waiting for an ambulance, I think. Then, about 10 minutes later, they manage to make way to let the bus and the vehicles go. I left in the bus, the man was still on the road then, probably some broken bones but it didn’t look too serious(I don’t know!).

It was a shocking experience today for me, especially when it happen a few metres from me.

What Career Will Suit My Personality?

iVillage Homepage

A few days ago, I took the job quiz from iVillage.co.uk and so I decided to talk about the results I got. I actually took the test twice, with only a few answers different and the possible career paths I got were pretty much the same. Here is the exact result generated:

You would be very happy in a career that utilised your level-headedness, and allowed you to work mainly on your own. You want a career that allows you to be creative, without having to be involved with lots of people. Some careers that would be perfect for you are:

* Artist
* Historian
* Banker
* Novelist
* University Professor
* Photographer
* Vet
* Paralegal
* Graphic Designer
* Online Content Developer
* Webmaster
* Producer
* Managing Director
* Nutritionist
* Advertising
* Nursing

You like working and being alone. You like to avoid attention at all costs. You tend to keep to yourself, and not interact much with the people around you. You enjoy spending time with a few a close friends. You like to listen to others, but don’t like sharing much about yourself. You are very quiet and private.

You are very practical, and only act after thinking things through. You don’t like being forced to answer quickly. You have to evaluate the situation completely. You make decisions based on what you can verify with your senses.

You like to be deeply involved in one or two special projects. You like to be behind the scenes. You are very logical and fair. You feel you should be honest with others and protect their feelings.

You trust your gut instincts. You are easily inspired and trust that inspiration. You are very innovative. You analyse things by looking at the big picture. You are concerned about how what you do affects others. You worry about your actions and the future. You tend to use a lot of metaphors and are very descriptive and colourful in your choice of language.

You are very creative, and get bored easily if you don’t get to express yourself. You like to learn new things. You don’t like the same old routine. You like to leave your options open.

Although I am a Software Engineer by profession, I am also an Online Content Developer(Blogger) and a Webmaster, which are what I enjoy doing the most. I like doing things that challenge my creativity and intellect. I also do get bored easily, hence the reason why I just sit infront of the TV in hope of learning something new from news and documentaries.

I work in a team environment at work, but I do believe that I am more productive when I work alone, although I do appreciate a little help when I’m stuck with something, rather than wasting my time looking for a solution on the web. I am a shy person, so obviously I am quiet and private ;)

I am also practical and innovative. Practical, because I usually analyze the pros and cons before taking the smallest decisions, although I do rely on my gut feelings as well(a bit confusing, I know!), and innovative, because I don’t like copying what others have already done, although I don’t believe in re-inventing the wheel but instead improving the wheel rather than just using the same wheel(confusing again, I know!).

Overall, I would say the results are pretty accurate, if you haven’t taken the test/quiz yet, then go and answer the 32 questions and see what career will suit your personality.

Slow Down Because Of Migraine

I haven’t blogged about anything new in the last two days because of a very bad migraine that is forcing me to slow down. I can’t help it.. I do get headaches everyday and it’s probably because of the fact that I spend many hours in front of my two favorite screen, the TV screen and the PC screen, but this weekend it’s been bad, which also happens occasionally(sometimes when I have a huge flow of thoughts in my mind - in computer terms, my brain bandwidth gets overloaded!!)

This weekend, all I did was checking my emails on my various email accounts, checking notifications and message on my Facebook account, checking my SocialSpark account and replying to some comments on this blog. Every time I sat on the computer, I felt like my head was hot enough to fry an egg on it. I don’t even bother taking pain killers now, they don’t work for me.

What I need is meditation! I want to be able to close my eyes to just see a darkness and NOT think about anything, even for just a few minutes. I’m seriously planning of joining a group to learn and practice some meditation, I will gather some information this week and I will be joining, maybe, by next week. I hope that helps.

If not, I saw the Get Rid Of Migraines self-hypnosis audio, I may try that as well. The problem is I want something that will instantly get rid of the migraine(I guess anyone would want that), but not even the self-hypnosis audios is gonna show instant results :(

Karate, Taekwondo Or Tricking

Some years ago, I used to practice karate and taekwondo. So, now even though I don’t practice them anymore and I have a tummy which seems to get fatter everyday, I still am deeply interested in martial arts. By that, I mean mostly in movies and competitions and no personal involvement ;)

I came across this two year old video, but a very cool one, showing some type of martial art. I wasn’t aware, but apparently it’s called tricking. I wonder if these tricks can actually help in fighting, but they sure please the eyes. For the people who are not feeling motivated to exercise harder, watch this.

Everybody should watch it anyway. What?? You don’t have a few minutes of your life to spare?? ;)

SocialSpark Homepage

The much awaited social network for advertisers and bloggers, SocialSpark is finally live(since some weeks already). I think it’s a great idea and at last bloggers and advertisers can create good relationships with each other, in a friendly social environment. This will certainly make it easier for advertisers looking to sponsor blog posts to find the right bloggers based on their interests, and also vice versa. Plus, you can create avatars too!!

I also created an account as a blogger with them today and submitted FusionFoot.com to get reviewed by one of their staff members before I can take full advantage of their services. They asked me so much detail about my blog, but I filled them patiently. It’s good to know that they are taking every bit of details into consideration.

Check out my SocialSpark profile, and if you want, you can join the community and connect with me.

The guys at SocialSpark also have their own Real Rank for ranking the blogs based on the number of unique visitors and page views, a bit like how Alexa ranks a site. The links will contain the “nofollow” attribute. So, that means the search engines (I mean Google) will be happy and the Google PR is not going to be manipulated. And now, advertisers can move away from looking for search engine benefits from sponsored posts and concentrate more on real traffic and conversion. Blog posts will also require a disclosure badge.

One of the other cool features of SocialSpark is the blog sponsorship, which basically, is an advertisement that pops up and minimizes to the bottom of the display. It’s definitely not one of those annoying popups. Recently, some of the bloggers had some complaints about the width of the advert when it minimizes to the bottom, so the guys at IZEA changed the with. They are actually looking for fruitful comments from their members to continuously improve their system.

Oh, by the way, IZEA is the parent company of PayPerPost and SocialSpark.

This post is sponsored by SocialSpark.

“Web 2.0 companies need to get a better understanding of the host entity that runs their business, the Internet. If not, they need to need to find someone that does, preferably someone they bring in at inception. Failing to do so will inevitably cost these companies users, performance and money.”

These days, everything around the corner is a Web 2.0 site. I personally see them just as better sites, better web design and better web development. So, what happened to Web 1.0?? These Web 2.0, mostly social networks, like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and SO many others are popping up everyday just like some years ago, during the dot COM boom, dot COM sites were popping up for every business…

Finding The Job That Suits You

That’s the million dollar question many ask, although it’s not very likely that you are going to get a million dollar with a job ;-)

A business can make you millions!! Just today I was reading some MBA reviews(because I can’t decide If I should go for it or not yet!) and a new business idea just popped in my head. Too bad, I can’t start it now, reasons being, no time, no investments, don’t know the right resources. But it’s definitely an idea I will keep in mind(or paper) for future.

I come up with all sorts of ideas anyway, if anyone wants to hire me as a business idea generator, shoot me an email to hire me ;-P

Ok, back to the main point of this post, finding the job that suits you. I was googling(on Google???- where else) and I found this nice quiz, that will determine what are the right jobs for you based on your personality. You should try it, if you feel in a mess and can’t decide about your career. Try it anyway, it just takes a few minutes.
